Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years PCU experience required; first-time travelers accepted with more than 5 years of PCU experience. License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: General nursing skills including IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, and the ability to care for patients with central lines. Comfort with NG tube insertion, tube feeds, PCA pumps, and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Ability to titrate drips like Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, and insulin. Experience with EMR systems, specifically EPIC. Description: This is a new Progressive Care Unit that will open soon. The unit will initially operate at 50% capacity and will expand as needed. It has 33 beds and is designed for adult medical patients. Common patient diagnoses include CHF, COPD, established vents and trachs, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, CIWA, and patients receiving dialysis. Patient ratios are 1:4. Support staff include 3 nursing assistants and a charge nurse, with hospitalists available 24/7 on call. There is no phlebotomy service available, so nurses must be comfortable performing lab draws. Continuous monitoring of patients is required, and nurses will need to be comfortable managing their own patients’ telemetry. Weekend shifts will comprise 6 weekends within a 6-week schedule. Holiday shifts are expected at a rate of 75%. Approval for time off can be granted up to 7 days, contingent upon manager approval for additional requests or during surrounding holidays. Navy blue scrubs are required.
