Job Title: PACU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Days, Monday to Friday Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: 1. Comfortable recovering patients in conjunction with anesthesia. 2. Ability to calculate Aldreti scores. 3. Close monitoring of patients during post-anesthesia care. 4. Maintaining airway and responding to life-saving situations as needed. 5. Administer medications and treatments per policy and procedure. Description: Department specializes in post-anesthesia care. Unit consists of 3 operating rooms and 2 endoscopy rooms. Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1. Travelers primarily cover Phase 1 recovery. Common cases include endoscopy, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repair, hysterectomy, dilation and curettage, cesarean section, laparoscopic appendectomy, open cholecystectomy, open appendectomy, orthopedic total joint procedures, open reduction internal fixation, closed reduction, anterior cruciate ligament repair, and emergency sedated procedures. Charge nurse available every shift. Registered nurses are responsible for reading cardiac strips. No nurse aides are available in the PACU but may be accessible in other areas if needed. Respiratory therapists manage equipment other than oxygen masks. ICU patients do not recover in the PACU. Call response time is expected within 20 minutes. All requests for time off must be noted upfront. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Alternating holidays are part of the requirement. Scrub color and dress code are provided by the operating room. Candidates must be within a specified distance of the facility. Additional requests for time off after submission will not be approved. Hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting system in use is MEDITECH. BSN degree is not required.
