Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Rotating Evening/Night Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS Must-Have: Pediatric experience, Pre/post-operative experience Description: The Post Anesthesia Care Unit provides a critical area for patient recovery. This unit consists of 12 beds dedicated to Phase 1 recovery and an additional 12 for Phase 2 and pre-operative. Traveling nurses are required to cover both phases. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 in Phase 1, 1:2 in Phase 2, and up to 1:3-5 in pre-operative. Nurses must hold certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Common cases in this unit include tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, bronchoscopic procedures, laparoscopic appendectomy, urology, and orthopedic cases. Experience in both pre/post-operative care is necessary. Pediatric experience is highly preferred. Nurses may assist in pre-operative care as needed. Electronic Medical Record system utilized is EPIC. Charge nurses will not be assigned patient care duties. Perioperative care assistants are available to support nursing staff during shifts. The unit occasionally utilizes BiPap equipment and monitors for patients. Nurses should be able to read cardiac strips. Shifts require self-scheduling, with nurses expected to fulfill 16-24 hours of on-call duty each month. Weekend shifts will include a combined call requirement. Nurses will be assigned scrubs upon hiring for their role. Two days of specific orientation are included for this position. This role does not have floating requirements. Holiday responsibilities will include an 8-hour call commitment during the summer.
