Job Title: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PICU Duration: 26 Weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years of strong high acuity Pediatric ICU experience License: RN Certifications: BLS, PALS Must-Have: - EPIC experience - Experience with Artic Sun, EVDs, Camino device, Belmont Rapid Infuser - Management of critical care vasoactive drip titration - Management of invasive lines - Aseptic and sterile techniques - Basic dressing changes - Ventilator and trach management - HOFV management - Oral/nasal suctioning - G-tube/j-tube management - Feeding tubes - Chest tubes - Epidurals - PCAs - Sedation and analgesic drip management - Foley insertion and management - Bedside procedures with providers - Discharge skills - CRRT experience - Ability/Competency to float to Pediatric CVICU Description: The unit is looking for a 26-week contract. May be open to a 48-hour/week guarantee. This facility has a total of 247 licensed beds. It is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and a teaching hospital. The average patient census is between 21 and 23. Patient types include respiratory, trauma, DKA, seizures, neurosurgical, acute/chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplants, complex medical conditions, and blood disorders. Patient ratios vary based on acuity, typically 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2. Support within the department includes one health care technician per day to assist with unit secretary duties and nursing support needs. A unit secretary is available every shift. There is a charge nurse present 24/7. Phlebotomy and IV/VAT teams are available 24/7. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, as well as in-house intensivists and residents. Telemetry monitoring is centralized and bedside. Additional roles include resource nurses and advanced practice providers. Floating may be required to Pediatric CVICU, NICU, neonatal PCU, or general pediatric units as needed. Teamwork, trust, accountability, respect, and a compassionate work ethic are key components of the unit culture.
