Job Title: OR RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3x12 Days Hours per Shift: 32 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association Must-Have: Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist Description: Position: OR RN Assists during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field. Provides instrumentation as needed to the surgical team. Participates in unit activities that assure high levels of quality related to patient care. Functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique. Combines knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technologies in performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Functions with working knowledge of standards. Maintains and checks all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal and packaging integrity, sterile indicator if present, and expiration dates. Ensures that the operating room environment is safe. Ensures that equipment functions properly and the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Monitors sterile field for events that may contaminate, interfere, or alter field. Initiates or notifies need for corrective action under supervision. Works towards competency or is competent with Tier 1 surgical cases. Maintains flexibility while contributing to the individualized, ongoing delivery of care within the scope of practice. Models effective, timely communication with the perioperative team with full participation in Time Out Process, including Briefings and Debriefings. Assists team in patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation. Models professional behavior by maintaining currency in new technologies and procedures. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Role models the principles of a Just Culture. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.
