The manager demonstrates core competency in communication and relationship-building. The individual should possess knowledge of the healthcare environment and business skills. The role is consistent with the vision of the Magnet Journey and strives for nursing excellence. The manager participates in nursing and organizational policy formulation and decision-making involving staff. Evaluates the quality and appropriateness of healthcare, promoting care delivery with respect for individuals' rights and preferences. Accepts accountability for services provided to recipients. Coordinates nursing care with other healthcare disciplines and integrates services across the continuum of care. Provides guidance and supervision of colleagues accountable to the manager. Oversees staffing and scheduling, considering scope of practice, competencies, patient needs, and complexity of care. Provides appropriate orientation for new staff and gives individual feedback on staff development and progress. Evaluates colleague performance fairly and transparently. Develops, implements, and monitors the budget for the defined area of responsibility. Participates in and involves nursing staff in evaluative research activities to promote evidence-based practice. Encourages shared accountability for professional practice. Provides an open forum of communication with staff, allowing ample opportunities to discuss issues and seek guidance. Performs other duties consistent with the purpose of the job as directed.
