Job Title: Cardiovascular OR Specialty Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: RN Registered / Licensed - Inpatient Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 Hours Experience: At least one year of Cardiovascular OR experience is preferred. Sufficient experience in a cardiovascular specialty to function in the team leader role and to serve as a resource to peers is preferred. Demonstrates excellent skills in the circulating role is preferred. Dual role of scrub and circulating is preferred. License: RN - Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact Certifications: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or equivalent within 180 days. BLS - Basic Life Support or equivalent. Must-Have: Thorough knowledge of new trends and techniques in Cardiovascular surgery. Ability to multi-task using critical thinking skills anticipates needs of surgeons and surgical teams. Capable of prioritizing appropriate patient care in emergency situations. Current CPR certification and participation in annual safety and infection control programs. Attendance and punctuality must be commendable. Must be able to effectively communicate and understand verbal and written English. Must communicate effectively in a clear, courteous, professional, and tactful manner, especially in stressful situations. Demonstrates excellent organizational skills. Basic keyboarding skills are required. Flexible in hours and work shifts due to the need for continued patient care. Must be available for call on weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Description: Functions under the direction of the Department Manager and Clinical Coordinator. Responsible for implementing the nursing process based on expanded knowledge and experience. Responsible for providing age-appropriate patient care. Addresses the biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and educational needs of the patient and family/support system. Responsible for delivering patient care in complex, multiple problem, urgent, emergent, and life-saving situations. Coordinates surgical suite activities and prioritizes and directs the surgical team in emergent situations. Participates in and coordinates staff development and professional self-development. Serves as a professional role model and team leader. Assists others in performing their responsibilities for patient care and organizational support and is self-directed. Functions in a full-time position as a circulator or surgical tech during peak surgery hours. Ensures high levels of patient safety. Collaborates with healthcare team members in planning patient care. Assumes responsibility for other assigned duties. Promotes team spirit and a positive work environment. Provides support for students and staff. Acts as a liaison between physicians, patients, families, and staff. Supports fiscal accountability for human and material resources. Supports performance improvement initiatives to promote quality care. Documents patient care legibly, accurately, and in accordance with department guidelines. Promotes shared governance and evidence-based practice. Functions independently within a broad range of surgical specialties. Maintains required contact hours per year. Manages assigned surgical specialty for flow and cost containment. Strives to incorporate high standards of care into daily work activities. Peer evaluation may be required.
