Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Works 5 out of 6 weekends, Friday, Saturday, Sunday Hours per Shift: 6 PM - 6:30 AM Experience: Minimum of 2 years acute care experience License: Current Iowa licensure as a Registered Nurse Certifications: Healthcare Provider BLS certification; ACLS certification preferred; Mandatory Abuse Reporter Certification within 6 months of hire Must-Have: Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English well Description: Under limited supervision, provides direct patient care. Plans, directs, and evaluates total nursing care for Med-Surg patients as directed. Relates effectively with other shifts for continuity of care and maintains satisfactory relations with other departments. Ability to maintain confidentiality and both a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with co-workers, patients, and visitors. Demonstrates satisfactory job performance despite the stress of a hospital work environment. Incorporates mission, vision, and core values into department and ensures adherence among departmental employees and self. Regular and predictable work attendance is required. Wears appropriate apparel for the position and displays nametag. Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing nursing functions for patients on the unit, including giving direct patient care. Is resourceful and calm in emergencies. Keeps physicians, nurses, and other staff informed of patient needs and problems on the unit as necessary. Utilizes gathered data to determine priorities for patients' physical, psychological, educational, and discharge needs while formulating the plan of care. Identifies problems and guides personnel to their solutions. Creates a working climate that fosters growth and job satisfaction among coworkers. Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly. Maintains standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting. Ensures needed supplies and equipment are available. Carries out nursing interventions safely and accurately, utilizing knowledge, judgment, and skill to implement physicians' orders and the nursing plan of care. Evaluates patient and family responses to the implementation of the plan of care and modifies the plan based on these responses. Prioritizes workload effectively. Performs documentation in the patient’s record accurately, concisely, and in a timely manner. Demonstrates effective communication skills. Supports and enforces infection control policies and procedures. Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel. Maintains professional patient confidentiality. Displays concern and initiative. Observes and supports hospital policies and procedures. Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences. Cooperates and maintains good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, patients, and visitors. Works independently with limited direct supervision while using the Nurse Practice Act, policies, nursing standards, and professional judgment. Works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. Attends meetings and in-services as required. Performs other duties as assigned.
