Job Title: Med/Surg Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Med/Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience in a hospital setting License: Must have a valid RN license Certifications: ACLS, BLS & PALS certifications required Must-Have: - Must have a valid RN license - Must have ACLS, BLS & PALS certifications - Must have 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience in a hospital setting Description: Med/Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Med/Surg Nurses include, but are not limited to: Consulting and coordinating with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans. Preparing and administering prescribed medications orally, subcutaneously, or through an IV, and recording them. Reporting adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with nursing policies. Educating patients on surgical procedures. Recording patients' medical information and vital signs. Monitoring and adjusting specialized equipment used on patients and interpreting electronic displays. Initiating corrective action whenever patients display adverse symptoms. Providing bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients. Initiating patient education plans as prescribed by physicians. Teaching patients and significant others how to manage their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs. Changing dressings, inserting catheters, and starting IVs. Preparing equipment and aiding physicians during patient examinations and treatments. Responding to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol. Participating in discharge planning. Utilizing time management skills effectively. Recording all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner. Performing other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
