Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: State Nursing License Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Telemetry experience Medical Surgical experience Description: This medical surgical unit has 60 beds and a dedicated staff of 50 members. The team consists of RNs, LVNs, PCTs, and unit secretaries during day shifts. The patient ratios are 5:1 on the 4th floor and 6:1 on the 5th floor. Key pieces of equipment include remote telemetry, capnography, Alaris IV pumps, glucometers, and dynamaps. The electronic medical record system used is Alterra (Allscripts). Candidates should have experience in telemetry and medical surgical care. Preferred skills include cardiac recognition and IV starts. Time management skills are also essential for this role. Typical procedures performed on the unit include various abdominal surgeries such as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, colectomy, as well as diagnostic procedures, paracentesis, thoracentesis, heart catheterizations, and run-offs. Gastric sleeve surgeries and total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements are common. Ortho trauma repairs (fractures) are also part of the scope of practice. The ideal candidate will be team-oriented, positive, and flexible. Weekend shifts are required for this position, but there is no on-call duty. Mandatory floating may be necessary to inpatient rehab, emergency department, or progressive care unit as needed. Assignments will not be given outside of the employee's skill level or scope of practice. Dress code requires black scrubs, transitioning to medical city blue. Unit policies and guidelines can be reviewed upon request.
