Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Driver's license Description: Interview with unit leaders is required. Two years of recent ICU experience is mandatory. Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. Refusal to remove artificial nails may lead to termination of contract. There is a pass/fail exam during orientation. This exam is open book on skills learned. Candidates are given all necessary resources to pass. A minimum score of 90% is required to pass. The department operates a 34-bed ICU. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:1-2 in ICU, 1:4-5 in PCU, and 1:5-6 in Med Surg. Common diagnoses include adults and pediatric patients over 15 years old. Typical cases involve neurosurgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, and cardiogenic shock. General surgical care also includes cancer-specific surgeries and various critical care procedures. Candidates must be able to titrate drips, including vasopressors and sedatives. Charge nurses are present on each shift and take assignments. Nurse aides and patient care techs are available in the unit with a ratio of 1:18. RNs troubleshoot respiratory equipment, including vents and CPAPs. There are no tele/monitor techs in the unit; RNs need to interpret telemetry strips. The schedule is managed by the unit manager based on unit needs. Weekend coverage is every other weekend with holiday requirements. Staff may float to all inpatient units except for maternity and NICU. Dress code requires navy blue scrubs. Unit requires a fast-paced environment that adapts to volume flexes. Successful candidates should possess critical thinking skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude. RTO requests should be provided upfront with a limit set for additional requests. The hospital can cancel a limited number of shifts during the assignment. Charting is completed using an electronic system. A BSN is required for submission. The care setting is acute. This position is within the nursing division. Shifts are 12 hours overnight. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.
