Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg/Telemetry RN experience preferred License: Current RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: General Med/Tele skillset including stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, foley insertion/management, and PCA pump management. Medication management for cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids. Description: Seeking a Registered Nurse specialized in Medical Surgical/Telemetry. We are a Level I Trauma and Teaching Hospital designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. We have a total of 874 licensed beds. The unit consists of 36 beds. Patient types and common diagnoses include bladder cancer, prostatectomy, kidney stones, renal cancer, and patients requiring fluid resuscitation or blood products. Our patient population also includes those with liver failure, acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, and surgical trauma such as chest tube management. The nurse-patient ratio is approximately 1:4 to 1:6, with possible increases of up to 1:7 or 1:8 during surge staffing. Certified Nursing Assistants will be assigned at a ratio of 1:9 to 1:12. Support within the department includes charge nurses, resource nurses, and hospitalists available 24/7. Phlebotomy services are available for peripheral blood draws only. Telemetry monitoring is done by nurses who will read monitors and respond accordingly. EMR utilized is EPIC, and Alaris pumps are used for IV medication administration. Floating to other units and regions may be required as part of the job. Travelers will be compensated for travel time if floating mid-shift. Scheduling includes weekend rotations every other week with an expectation to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off may be approved up to six days, excluding holidays. Scrub color required is navy.
