Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 10 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Day/Night Rotate Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP Must-Have: Ability to be primary Labor & Delivery when needed Description: Work collaboratively with a great team. Self-scheduling flexibility is available. Floating requirements include floating to Med-Surg approximately 80% of the time. RNs will take a full patient assignment in Med-Surg if there are no laboring patients in the department. This facility is located in a rural area with a low birth rate. Labor and Delivery consists of three beds, with three postpartum beds and a C-section OR located on the first floor. Approximately 30 births occur per year. Couplet Care is practiced, managing both mother and baby during labor, delivery, and postpartum. Common diagnoses include active labor, elective inductions, and low-risk pregnancies (37 weeks or more). RNs manage drips such as Pitocin and Magnesium. RNs will titrate drips according to policy. There is no charge nurse position; support staff includes collaborative RN staff. No nurse aides or surgical techs are available. OB/Neonatologist can respond within 15 minutes, but is not in-house 24/7. Anesthesia is also available within 15 minutes, not in-house 24/7. Respiratory therapy equipment is used on a PRN basis, mainly during labor. The electronic fetal monitoring system uses paper charting. Self-scheduling is structured, with a manager available from morning to evening to ensure balance. Weekend requirements entail working every other weekend, potentially every third weekend. Holiday requirements include working every other holiday. On-call placement may occur due to low census. Scrub color and pattern are flexible, though closed-toe shoes are required. Unit-specific orientation consists of one day shift and one night shift for acclimatization.
