Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: LDRP RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days with Call Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification, Intermediate Fetal Monitoring preferred (ACLS, NRP, STABLE) Must-Have: Able to read and interpret fetal strips Critical thinking skills Ability to follow quality metrics Previous travel experience Must be able to float to Medsurg and ER as needed Experience with titrating drips including pitocin, insulin, and magnesium Description: This position requires the ability to read and interpret fetal strips. The unit has a total of 15 labor and delivery beds with 7 designated for labor and 8 for postpartum care. There is one operating room suite available for C-sections. Approximately 58 births occur per month. Patient care ratios follow established guidelines: 1:1 for pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips and 1:3 for couplet care. Common patient diagnoses include obstetric and neonate cases, hypertension, and gestational diabetes mellitus. RNs are expected to titrate drips as part of their duties. A Charge Nurse is present on each shift and takes an assignment. Nurse aides and surgical techs assist with tasks such as vital signs and paperwork. OB/Neonatologist and Anesthesia are not available on-site 24/7. Respiratory therapy equipment is present, but RNs are not required to do more than troubleshoot. There are no Tele/Monitor Techs on the unit, and RNs must read their own strips. The EMR system utilized is Meditech. This position does not allow for self-scheduling, though block scheduling is permitted. Employees are required to work every other weekend and every other holiday. Floating may be necessary to other departments as staffing needs arise. Scrubs are maroon in color and provided by the facility. To succeed in this role, adaptability to change, strong critical thinking, and effective communication skills are key.
