Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Women's Services Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years of experience required License: Active RN License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Stable, AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: - Experience in Labor and Delivery (L&D) and Postpartum (PP) - Circulating experience required - Triage experience strongly preferred Description: This position involves working in a unit with a total of 10 beds for Labor and Delivery. There are 2 operating room suites available for C-sections. Registered Nurses will be responsible for circulating during procedures. The unit has 4 triage beds and 10 postpartum beds. On average, there are about 120 births per month. The unit adheres to clinical guidelines that recommend a ratio of 1:1 in Labor and Delivery and 1:6 couple care in Postpartum. The Registered Nurse will be required to titrate IV drips, primarily Pitocin and magnesium, with rare use of insulin. There is always a Charge Nurse, a Resource Nurse, and a House Supervisor present on each shift. A Certified Nursing Assistant will be available for support 4-5 days and nights per week. An OB hospitalist and midwives are on site 24/7, along with a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and a Neonatologist. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are also available around the clock. The unit uses an Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system. Shifts are scheduled as 12-hour rotations, with a policy in place that prohibits working more than five consecutive shifts. Weekend and holiday requirements are based on unit needs. Registered Nurses may be required to float to similar units within a designated area, with notifications provided prior to the shift. Blue scrubs are provided on the unit. Customized unit-specific orientation typically consists of 4-6 shifts.
