Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP Must-Have: Must have LDRP experience. Must be comfortable attending deliveries independently and circulating in C-sections. Must be comfortable assisting with catching the baby and transitioning the baby. Must have at least 2 years of experience; will consider those with 1 year of experience if they have multiple prior travel experiences. Description: The unit has a total of 34 beds and 2 OR suites for C-sections. There are 2 Triage beds and 14 Postpartum beds available. On average, 150-180 births occur each month. In 2022, the unit completed 2,133 deliveries. The following staffing ratios are followed: 1:2 for Labor and Delivery and 1:3-4 for couplets. RNs are required to have BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications. Intermediate or advanced FHM is preferred. Common patient diagnoses include those 33 weeks and above, high-risk conditions, preeclampsia, diabetes, and psychosocial issues. The unit is equipped to handle patients with positive substance use as well. RNs are required to titrate drips, specifically magnesium, Pitocin, and insulin. The charge nurse does not take an assignment and is free during both shifts. There is one surgical tech available 24/7, and a patient care assistant is also present on each shift. OB hospitalists are in-house 24/7 to assist with triaging patients and managing emergent cases. A Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is available in the Nursery 24/7. Anesthesia is provided 24/7 with OB anesthesia providers on-site. The unit has RT equipment including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP. There are Tele/Monitor Techs available post-C-section, and RNs are required to read their own strips. The EFM system used is Centricity-perinatal. Block scheduling is utilized when requested in contracts. Weekend requirements include every other weekend. Holiday scheduling rotates with permanent staff. In the event of standby, response time is 45 minutes. Traveling RNs may be required to function in both Mother/Baby and Postpartum units. Scrubs are provided, and each nurse receives a locker. An 8-hour compliance orientation and 2-3 shifts of unit-specific orientation are required. The unit manager values feedback and encourages travelers to be adaptable to workflows, policies, procedures, and feedback.
