Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Labor & Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: - ACLS - AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring - BLS Certification - NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Must-Have: - Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance of a position. - A pass/fail assessment is required on Day 1 of orientation. - Must circulate for C-sections, no scrubbing. - Must have experience in perinatal safety checklists. Description: The unit consists of 10 Labor & Delivery beds and 4 Triage beds. Travelers will not go to triage. Ratios are 1:1 for active delivery and 1:2 for regular labor. The Charge Nurse will not take patients. There are no Nurse Aides, but there are CSTs in the OR for C-sections. Travelers are required to work every other to every third weekend. Holidays will be part of the permanent staff rotation. Scrub color is provided. There is very little cardiac monitoring on the floor. Most patients are transferred to ICU/Tele with a Labor & Delivery RN. 24/7 anesthesia is available. There is no dedicated IV Team. Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy support is available 24/7. Shifts run from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Floating among various departments will occur frequently. Travelers should be comfortable floating between facilities. Floor-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts on the floor. Common diagnoses include preeclampsia, magnesium use, and postpartum hemorrhage. Approximately 300-325 births occur each month. 30% of deliveries are managed by Midwives, with 70% of patients utilizing epidurals. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts during the 13-week assignment. Charting is done using a specified system. A BSN is required for this position.
