Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery Profession: RN Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 12 weeks Shift: 19:00 - 07:00 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring training Must-Have: Must have charge experience. Labor and delivery experience including the ability to labor and recover the mother. Experience in receiving and transitioning the newborn, including assessment. Experience with shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage, and other potential OB emergencies preferred. Description: The unit has 9 LDRP beds, 1 OBED bed, 4 NICU beds, and 1 OR suite. Patient ratios are 1:1 for active labors, inductions, and C-sections, and couplet care is 1:3 for newborns until stable. In the NICU, the ratio is 1:3 for intermediate care, with 2 NICU nurses required if there are patients in the unit. There are no unit secretaries or techs available. Equipment includes central monitoring, IV pumps, infant warmers, tele-med robots for neonatologists, bili-blankets, and PCA pumps. Documentation is done using Meditech and Central Monitoring systems. Scheduling requires full-time work of 3 shifts per week, with rotating weekends and holidays. Staff are expected to float as needed within the facility, with some cross-trained for LDRP and NICU. Patient experience requires daily rounding on all patients and safety rounding. Advanced skills needed include fetal monitoring education and experience with inductions (Pitocin, cervidil). Procedures performed on the unit include C-sections, circumcisions, intra-uterine monitoring, and vacuum or forceps-assisted deliveries. The unit has experienced RNs who are great resources and preceptors, with an average of 30 years of experience each. There are several other nurses with 7-10 years of experience who are also competent and helpful. The unit fosters a great team environment and provides an excellent opportunity for gaining experience in labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonate care.
