Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS Must-Have: - Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC / TCAR / or experience with the care of trauma patients. - Candidates with facial hair must pass a fit test; failure to do so will result in contract cancellation if facial hair cannot be removed. Description: The unit has a total of four beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio ranges from 1:2 to 1:3, depending on patient acuity. Common patient diagnoses include DKA, sepsis, respiratory failure, cardiac rate and rhythm control, medical detox, art lines, and CVP. Registered nurses are required to titrate drips. Common titratable and set rate drips typical to an ICU will be administered. There is no charge nurse on each shift, as emergency room personnel supervise the ICU. There are no nurse aides or patient care techs on this unit. Registered nurses are responsible for troubleshooting respiratory equipment such as vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow. RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips. The scheduling system is managed by the director. Weekend and holiday work will be required based on staffing needs. Floating requirements may include working in medical-surgical or emergency rooms for one-on-one situations. Scrub color is navy. Attributes that contribute to success in this unit include coachability, motivation, understanding and addressing unsafe situations, and teamwork. Additional time-off requests are limited and must be disclosed upfront. The facility can cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment. Charting is done using a designated system. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is not required. The trauma level and care setting are classified as acute. Shifts are primarily nights, from 7 pm to 7 am, and include weekends and holidays as needed.
