Job Title: Emergency Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Nurse Duration: Full Time Shift: Varies Hours per Shift: Guaranteed hours based on schedule Experience: 1 year preferred License: Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or other U.S. state required. Certifications: BLS required at hire. ACLS and PALS must be obtained within 6 months of hire. TNCC required for ED nurses. Must-Have: High school diploma or equivalent required. Description: The clinical nurse coordinates and performs a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages. The position requires professional knowledge and consideration of specific patient conditions and treatments. Independently completes assignments while adhering to provider orders, standards of care, and nursing policies and procedures. Clinical decisions are made independently during the scheduled shift. Maintains complete accountability for all actions taken and consults with appropriate management in difficult situations. Able to react calmly and make sound nursing judgments in emergent situations. Accountable for proper delegation and supervision of CNAs and technicians. Promotes excellence in patient care by implementing safe, therapeutic, and efficient care. Sets priorities for patient care based on acuity and/or patient preference. Anticipates potential problems and adapts to changes and emergencies. Initiates, manages, and documents nursing procedures consistent with scientific principles. Demonstrates knowledge of equipment use and accurately administers age-specific medications. Carries out medical and nursing care plans while coordinating patient care activities with physicians and other healthcare team members. Initiates action to reduce or prevent immediate or potential risks to patients. Facilitates healing by providing individualized, goal-oriented nursing care. Explains tests, procedures, and disease processes to patients and significant others. Documents patient assessments and progress towards goals accurately and comprehensively. Identifies problems and nursing diagnoses recognizing the impact of health issues on patients and families. Develops and contributes to nursing action plans based on existing and potential patient problems. Transcribes and notes physician orders accurately, utilizing past experience to provide options for nursing care. Documents reassessments including laboratory results, diagnostic findings, and interdisciplinary notes. Communicates with staff, patients, and their significant others in a supportive way. Provides counseling using emotional, intellectual, and psychological support. Evaluates patient progress towards goals and directs new goal setting when necessary. Assures confidentiality of patient information. Participates in educational programs and ongoing evaluation of teaching effectiveness. Engages in ongoing training and mandatory competency checks. Guides others in developing nursing interventions and applying knowledge. Attends and participates in departmental meetings and complies with scheduling guidelines. Completes annual competencies and maintains required licenses and certifications. Addresses problems with patients, visitors, and co-workers following human resources policy. Performs duties as assigned, ensuring quality patient care in all situations encountered.
