Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Urgent Care Duration: Full Time Shift: Varies Hours per Shift: 40 hours a week rotating days and weekends Experience: Minimum of 2 years of general nursing experience with at least 1 year in an ambulatory or urgent care clinic License: Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or other U.S. state required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred Must-Have: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and qualified to take the NCLEX Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and every year Description: This position functions within the Urgent Care setting providing appropriate and timely nursing care for patients of all ages. The role promotes quality, evidence-based, and cost-effective health care outcomes. The Registered Nurse will work within a nursing team consisting of RNs, LPNs, and Clinical Assistants. The RN will provide full assessments, prioritize patient needs and patient flow, perform skills, and coordinate care as ordered by providers. In addition, the RN is expected to use critical thinking to work within standing orders to expedite care and patient services. As necessary, the RN may work in other nursing roles to ensure departmental functions are covered daily. The RN will perform duties in a responsible, professional, and compassionate manner to provide excellent patient care. The role includes performing initial triage and assessments of patients who present for urgent care services. The RN also provides telephone services including assessment and advice of self-care and/or appropriate care options. The assessment will include history of present illness, vital sign measurements, gathering of data, immunization status, and preventative health needs. The RN may take direction from providers through written, verbal, and/or standing orders. The RN will administer therapeutic measures, including medication and operation of specialized equipment, as indicated by patient needs. The RN will initiate IV access, maintain the site, monitor patients, and discontinue IV therapy as needed. The role requires documenting assessment, observation, nursing interventions, and health counseling provided to patients. The RN will evaluate and document the patient's comprehension of education provided. Maintaining a clean and safe working environment, including adequate supplies, is a key responsibility. The RN will report and remove any defective or missing equipment and safety hazards immediately. Adherence to infection control policy and procedures is required. Maintaining annual competencies, including safety and infection control requirements, is mandatory. The RN may facilitate the coordination of patient referrals and track the progress of these referrals. The RN will serve as the primary link for other case managers and referral coordinators in care coordination for patients. Proactively identifying delays and obstacles to care and working to remedy individual cases is expected. The RN will contact patients for follow-up calls and handle each situation appropriately. Collaboration and building rapport with team members within the department and across the organization are essential. Participation in department and clinic team improvement efforts is encouraged. The RN is responsible for responding to emergency situations and may serve as a vaccine coordinator. Performing other duties as assigned to provide comprehensive health services is required. The role demands maintaining compliance with annual competencies and communication in a professional manner with all members of the healthcare team. The RN must remain calm, professional, and focused during stressful or emergent situations. Physical demands include regular talking or hearing, frequent standing, walking, and ability to lift and/or move 50 lbs.
