Job Title: ER Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years required License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS (NRP preferred) Must-Have: - Recent Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma experience - Driver's license required Description: Department: Emergency Room Certifications required include BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, with NRP preferred. Candidates must not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facility. Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. Refusal to remove nails will lead to termination of the contract. Registered Nurses must pass an exam during orientation. This includes an open-book exam on skills learned. A score of 90% is required to pass; failure to achieve this will result in termination. The unit is a Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Certified by the State, and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. The Emergency Room has 20 beds, with 5 Trauma bays, and 10 observation beds, including hallway beds. There is a Fast Track section with 6 beds. The department includes a separate triage area with 3 triage beds. Security staff is present in-house 24/7. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4 in zones, 1:6 in Fast Track, 1:5 in Observation, and 1:1 in ICU/Trauma. Common diagnoses include trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and strokes. All common drips seen in Level I Trauma Emergency Rooms are utilized. Both Emergency Department physicians and mid-level staff are present. There is a charge nurse on each shift. Nurse aides, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters are available with established ratios. Registered Nurses must read and interpret telemetry strips. Shifts include various hours, with leadership overseeing scheduling. Weekend and holiday requirements vary based on department needs. Floating to the Observation unit and additional assigned locations may occur at least once a week. Additional request for time off is not permitted after submission. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting is done using an electronic system.
