We are seeking an experienced Dialysis Acute Care Registered Nurse (RN) to deliver high-acuity renal replacement therapies in a hospital setting. This role supports critically ill patients requiring complex dialysis modalities and partners closely with ICU teams, physicians, and hospital staff to deliver safe, timely, and effective care.
This position is ideal for RNs with strong critical-thinking skills, inpatient dialysis experience, and confidence managing multiple renal replacement modalities in fast-paced clinical environments. Clinical Scope & Modalities
The Acute Dialysis RN provides direct inpatient care across a wide range of renal therapies, including:
- Hemodialysis (HD)
- Peritoneal Dialysis (PD)
- Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
- Ultrafiltration (UF)
- Apheresis
Patient Care & Clinical Excellence
- Provide direct inpatient dialysis care across multiple modalities as prescribed
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and monitor response to therapy
- Adjust treatment plans per physician orders and patient condition
- Deliver care efficiently while prioritizing higher-acuity patients
- Administer and monitor intradialytic transfusions, including documentation and adverse reaction reporting
- Ensure safe, effective, and timely delivery of all prescribed treatments
- Collaborate closely with nephrologists, intensivists, hospital nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams
- Provide education and guidance to ICU staff related to CRRT
- Supervise and direct Patient Care Technicians (CCHTs) and clerical staff
- Serve as a subject matter expert for dialysis-related patient or equipment issues
- Accurately document all treatments in patient records and hospital systems
- Communicate changes in patient condition to physicians, inpatient program leadership, and hospital staff
- Report adverse events, incidents, or unusual findings per policy
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement (QAI) activities
- Prepare dialysis equipment and perform all required pre-treatment testing
- Conduct machine safety tests, alarm testing, calibration, and disinfection
- Operate dialysis and apheresis equipment safely, troubleshooting as needed
- Maintain infection control standards and clean/disinfect equipment between treatments
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- Active RN license in the state of practice
- Current CPR / BLS certification
- Minimum 2 years of nephrology nursing experience within the past 2 years
- Minimum 2 years of inpatient dialysis RN experience
- Strong assessment skills for critically ill patients
- Ability to meet all state nursing practice requirements
- ACLS certification (preferred, not required)
- Certification in Nephrology Nursing and/or Apheresis Nursing
- Prior experience supporting ICU-level CRRT
- Shifts will be discussed in detail during the interview process
- Commitment to 40 hours per week, with overtime as needed
- On-call rotation including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Floating required to hospitals and facilities within 50 miles of the primary site
- Travel to regional meetings or educational events may be required
- There is a minimum guaranteed 36 hours per week
- Schedule requests or restrictions
- Refusal to float to required sites
- Late arrival to a scheduled shift
- Leaving a shift early
- Calling out of a scheduled shift
- Planned or unplanned time off
- Direct patient care in inpatient hospital settings
- Frequent standing, lifting, bending, and moving patients and equipment (up to 200 lbs with assistance)
- Lifting solutions and supplies up to 30 lbs
- Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials
- Travel between assigned hospitals and facilities required
