Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Must be willing to work days or nights for primary shift. Will be determined by facility needs. Hours per Shift: 36.00 Experience: One (1) year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Must possess current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: A valid driver's license required Must-Have: Graduate from an accredited college, university or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes executing licensed independent provider's orders. Dispensing and administering medications is essential as well. The RN assists licensed independent providers in examinations and treatment of patients. Nursing and supervisory techniques are applied in the care, treatment, and referrals of inmates/residents. All technical and clinical procedures are performed within the scope of education and licensure. The RN attends sick call with the physician to see inmates/residents. A list of inmates/residents to be examined is prepared, along with preparing the examining room and equipment. Pill call operations involve dispensing medication and documenting as required by applicable policies and procedures. The RN calls licensed independent providers for medication and treatment orders and any other emergencies. New inmates/residents with illnesses or injuries are examined and assessed. Referrals to the emergency room or other appropriate healthcare facilities are made as required. Emergency procedures are performed as needed, with notifications to licensed independent providers for treatment orders. The RN assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel. Guidance, supervision, and monitoring of nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff are responsibilities of the RN. A good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside provider agencies is maintained. Established corporate and facility policies and procedures are utilized in decision-making. Sound independent judgment is used to meet responsibilities and perform duties. Regular evaluation of the provision of medical services is undertaken to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of those services. Absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records are maintained. The RN assists with the review of medical files to ensure all provided services are documented. Monitoring of all potential catastrophic illnesses occurs regularly. Pharmacy use is audited for adherence to formulary as directed or required. Compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws, particularly those covering controlled substances, is essential. Observation and recording of inmate/resident behavior are necessary tasks. The medical unit is inspected for items that could be used as contraband. Secure storage or safe disposal of supplies and equipment is conducted. Health counseling and health education are provided on an individual or group basis as required. Preparation and maintenance of various records, reports, and logs are completed using appropriate grammar. Reading, analyzing, comprehending, and interpreting medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, and legal documents are required skills. Processing and responding to lawsuits is a part of the job, and attending court hearings may be necessary. Facilitation of accreditation of the medical program is required by providing efficient and approved medical services. Preparation and dissemination of safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures are performed. Appropriate action is taken in cases of serious incidents and emergencies. US Citizenship required for ICE clearance.
