Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Level I trauma experience Dysrhythmia exam pass required prior to acceptance Must have own vehicle Natural hair color, no facial piercings Men must be clean-shaven for fit test Description: Medical Solutions pre-screens candidates. If clinical recommends, manager will approve offer without a second interview. Candidates must have Level I trauma experience. Travelers must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance, with two attempts available. Failure results in being DNU for 6 months. Travel teams are required to have their own vehicles. Natural hair color and no facial piercings are mandated. Men must be clean-shaven for fit test. On the first day of orientation, there is a pass/fail exam. All RNs will complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes. Those not competent in these areas may not be a good fit for the unit. Other educational topics include lifts, restraints, and wound care. The unit has 24 beds and requires both BLS and ACLS certifications. CCRN certification is preferred. ICU experience is necessary, preferably CVICU experience. Patient ratios are high, with a significant number of 1:1 assignments. EMR used on the unit is Cerner. There is a charge nurse present without patient assignment. The nurse aids consist of 2 PCTs available on days and nights for high census. Weekend requirements include working 3 shifts within a 4-week schedule. Holidays are part of the rotation. Scrub color is navy. An intensivist is present during the day and on-call at night. There is no IV team available; strong IV skills are required. Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy services are available 24/7. Travelers may float to other ICUs and telemetry units if needed. Common diagnoses include cardiac surgery recovery, ECMO, and thoracic procedures. High patient acuity expected. Travelers with IABP and CABG experience can take patients. There is a high number of bedside procedures and other interventions performed. Cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shifts to be canceled during the assignment. Charting system in use is Cerner.
