This position involves providing care to some of the most critically ill patients with a variety of diagnoses. The primary service lines include cardiothoracic surgery and neuro/neurosurgery. Nurses in this unit may also provide ICU-level care for patients suffering from severe respiratory infections and may utilize advanced therapies such as extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The unit operates with a capacity of 15 beds. Patient diagnoses include cardiac surgery, cardiac transplant, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, and post-cardiopulmonary arrest care. Ages of patients served range from adolescent through late adult (14-60+). The typical nurse to patient ratio is 1:2. The direct patient care staff consists of registered nurses and patient care technicians.
