Supervisor II, Laboratory (Chemistry)
The Supervisor II, Laboratory (Auto Chemistry) provides technical and people leadership for a high volume clinical chemistry section, ensuring accurate, timely testing and regulatory compliant operations in a core laboratory setting.
Role overviewFull time, onsite position in Orange City, FL; schedule is Tuesday Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with an alternating Saturday rotation approximately every 12 weeks.
Reports to the Laboratory Manager and serves as the licensed technical supervisor for the Chemistry section, with responsibility for daily workflow, quality, and staff oversight.
Works hands on in the lab as needed while coordinating bench coverage, staffing plans, and cross coverage for teammate absences.
Supervise day to day operations of the Chemistry (and related Auto Chemistry) bench from specimen processing through result reporting, ensuring adherence to turnaround time and service guarantees.
Ensure all testing is performed in accordance with established standard operating procedures, quality assurance and quality control requirements, and applicable regulatory standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, state requirements).
Provide direction, communication, and guidance to Medical Laboratory Technologists/Scientists, including task assignment, real time workflow adjustments, and troubleshooting of technical issues.
Lead and support training, competency assessment, and ongoing education for Chemistry staff; serve as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced teammates.
Monitor section performance against key metrics (turnaround time, quality indicators, incident reports, proficiency testing) and drive process improvements across the Chemistry area and related lab lanes.
Participate in or lead the development, review, and implementation of section specific SOPs, validation plans, and compliance documentation to support accreditation and inspection readiness.
Oversee staffing plans, scheduling, timecard review, and time off approvals; ensure appropriate coverage during all hours of operation and during teammate absences.
Support performance management activities, including feedback, coaching, competency reviews, and participation in hiring and evaluation processes in collaboration with lab leadership.
Maintain a strong culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the Chemistry section.
Bachelor s degree in medical technology, biological science, clinical laboratory science, or a closely related field.
Minimum of 6 8 years of clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist, with significant recent experience in Chemistry.
Florida Supervisor License in Chemistry (or immediate eligibility to obtain, per Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel requirements).
Certification by a professional laboratory certifying agency, such as ASCP, AMT, or AAB.
Strong technical expertise in automated clinical chemistry analyzers, quality control, and troubleshooting of instrument and assay issues.
Proven experience supervising or leading laboratory staff, including workflow coordination and competency evaluation, in a high volume clinical environment.
Experience working in a reference or core laboratory processing high test volumes and supporting multiple client sites.
Prior leadership experience as a section lead, senior technologist, or supervisor in Chemistry or a related discipline.
Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies in a lab setting.
