Job Title: Point of Care Lab Technician Profession: Technologist Specialty: Laboratory Duration: Permanent Shift: Morning Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Valid driver's license with a good driving record Certifications: Certification/licensure as required by state Must-Have: Vaccination against COVID-19 or proper documentation for exemption Description: Responsible for performing waived laboratory tests in a mobile setting. Serves over 7,500 care facilities nationwide. This role involves receiving specimens from phlebotomists and couriers. May operate a delivery van to bring the mobile lab to high-volume STAT testing areas. Enters patient demographics and test orders into the lab information system. Checks the quality control of each test prior to running and reporting patient results. Ensures quality control is within appropriate limits and addresses problems in real time. Performs lab testing in areas of point of care, which may include Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular, and Coagulation. Confirms abnormal results before releasing and alerts supervisors to rare test results. Collects blood samples, including venipuncture and capillary specimens. Processes specimens and logs requisitions as needed. Monitors the STAT board to ensure turnaround times are met consistently. Assists in maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and compliance with documentation requirements. Troubleshoots client, instrument, and computer issues as needed. Conducts maintenance on automated instruments as required. Records quality control and maintains quality control records for all tests performed. Performs clerical functions associated with specimen integrity and testing. Follows all safety protocols outlined in the safety manual. The work environment includes hazards associated with blood-borne pathogens, biological materials, hazardous substances, and radioactive material. Staff is expected to adhere to all health and safety policies at all times. Physically, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, and hear. The employee may occasionally walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May lift and move up to 15 pounds on occasion. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. No color vision deficiency is allowed.
