Job Title: Medical Technologist Profession: Medical Technologist Specialty: Laboratory Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Monday - Friday Hours per Shift: 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care hospital laboratory experience License: Must have relevant licensure Certifications: Must have ASCP or AMT certification Must-Have: - Minimum 2 years recent acute care hospital laboratory experience - ASCP or AMT certification Description: Under general supervision, performs and reports routine and special laboratory tests on clinical specimens to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients. Performs analyses in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood bank, and microbiology according to expected performance standards. Performs venipuncture, finger stick, or heel stick on identified patients by physician's request in a timely, accurate, and caring manner. Keeps documented records current regarding maintenance and quality control. Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results. Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Adheres to the laboratory's quality control policies, documenting all quality control activities, instrument, and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correcting the problems or immediately notifying the appropriate personnel. Follows established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the established acceptable levels of performance. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
