Roles & Responsibilities
  • Collect and accurately document patient information and vital signs in the medical record
  • Prepare patients for exams, assist providers during procedures and minor office surgeries
  • Perform specimen collection and Point of Care Testing (POCT) following protocol
  • Maintain and update medication and immunization records and identify overdue preventive care
  • Operate and prepare medical equipment for routine exams, including EKG and monitoring devices
  • Transport patients within the facility as needed and ensure patient safety during visits
  • Provide immunizations and injections as ordered by the provider
  • Support clinic flow by providing cross-coverage, assisting nurses and providers, and triaging needs
  • Report and document changes in patient condition, unusual incidents, or safety breaches
  • Participate in staff meetings, unit goal setting, and apply meeting information to clinical practice
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR EMT III required
  • Current Alaska Certification OR AK Paramedic Certification OR Nursing Degree from an accredited institution may substitute
  • Experience in a healthcare or clinic setting preferred
  • Proven ability to use EMR systems and record patient data accurately
  • Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills
  • Ability to operate common clinical equipment and respond to emergency situations
  • Willingness to cross-cover and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) OR EMT III required; alternates include AK Certification, AK Paramedic Certification, or a Nursing Degree
Knowledge & Skills
  • Patient care and vital signs measurement
  • Specimen collection and labeling procedures
  • Point of Care Testing (POCT) and immunization administration
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and general computer applications
  • Basic life support and emergency recognition
  • Operation of EKG machines, cardiac monitors, manual defibrillators, blood pressure cuffs, and pulse oximeters
  • Medical terminology and clinic workflows
  • Strong interpersonal, training, and customer service skills
