Position Summary
The School Social Worker provides comprehensive social-emotional, behavioral, and mental health support to students in order to promote academic success and overall well-being. The School Social Worker collaborates with educators, families, and community agencies to identify and address barriers to learning and ensures compliance with state and federal regulations, including special education mandates. Essential Responsibilities
Student Support & Counseling
- Provide individual and group counseling services to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and/or family challenges.
- Conduct crisis intervention and risk assessments as needed.
- Support students with attendance concerns, behavioral challenges, and school adjustment issues.
- Develop and implement intervention plans aligned with MTSS and/or IEP goals.
- Serve as a member of the Child Study Team and/or IEP team.
- Conduct social history evaluations and other assessments as required.
- Develop and monitor IEP goals related to social-emotional functioning.
- Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and state regulations.
- Act as a liaison between home, school, and community agencies.
- Provide families with resources and referrals to outside support services.
- Facilitate parent conferences and workshops related to student wellness and mental health.
- Consult with teachers and administrators regarding classroom strategies and behavioral interventions.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and problem-solving teams.
- Provide professional development to staff on topics such as trauma-informed practices, mental health awareness, and social-emotional learning.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
- Prepare reports, case notes, and documentation in accordance with district policies and ethical standards.
- Monitor and track student progress and intervention outcomes.
- Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
- Valid State School Social Worker Certification or License (as required by state regulations).
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) preferred.
- Knowledge of special education laws and procedures.
- Strong understanding of child development, trauma-informed practices, and behavioral intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Experience working in a school setting.
- Ability to build rapport with diverse student populations and families.
- Cultural competence and commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Ability to manage crisis situations calmly and effectively.
- School-based environment.
- May require travel between school buildings within the district.
- Occasional evening meetings for parent conferences or school events.
