Job Title: Procedural Assistant Profession: Interventional Radiology Technician Specialty: Vascular Institute Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum 3 years in Interventional Special Procedures in a relevant setting License: Required licenses as specified Certifications: BLS, ARRT-CV or ARRT-R or ARRT-VI or RCIS Must-Have: Must be able to function independently during procedures after appropriate orientation and demonstrate competency Description: Functions under the direction of the Chief Technologist and Vascular Institute Manager. The interventional special procedures technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain a quality diagnostic study. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in utilizing the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. He/she sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patients for procedures. Able to perform procedures in both interventional and vascular hybrid settings. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Completion of required competencies. Ability to use critical thinking skills. Work in conjunction with medical professionals. Prepares the patient for procedures. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique. Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedures. Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedures. Job Responsibilities: Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs. Able to work scheduled and on-call hours. Knows existing lines of communication and authority. Handles communications properly. Introduces self to patients and/or guardians using proper scripting. Transports patients as needed. Provides privacy and comfort for patients. Assists with maintenance of departmental records and compliance with standards and regulations. Completes necessary paperwork. Answers departmental phone using proper scripting. Maintains stock levels and outdates. Maintains current License and BLS certifications. Assists in training for other staff as appropriate. Works as a team to obtain the best possible outcome. Performs any other duties as needed when asked by leadership. Quality and Patient Safety: Verifies patient identity using two identifiers. Verifies front of patient chart for same/similar name sticker. Verifies written orders and consent, seeking clarification if needed. Uses pre-procedural verification and time-out forms. Understands and complies with site/side marking when indicated. Patient Education: Responsible for patient and family education. Provides post-procedural home care instructions as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Skills: Able to function independently after orientation and demonstrate competency on unit. Competency in all aspects of interventional/vascular procedures. Understanding of anatomy and pathology as they affect procedure quality. Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English. Displays a positive attitude.
