Roles & Responsibilities- Process and accession tissue specimens quickly and accurately to ensure diagnostic integrity
- Prepare, embed, section and stain tissue specimens so pathologists can make timely diagnoses
- Assist the pathologist during gross examinations by providing correctly labeled cassettes and documentation
- Perform frozen section preparation upon specimen receipt to support intraoperative diagnoses
- Run and maintain tissue processors and related histology equipment for reliable operation
- Prepare slides and materials for outside consultation and ensure proper filing, storage, and rotation of specimen archives
- Perform special histochemical staining procedures within requested timeframes to support diagnostic needs
- ASCP Histotechnologist certification (required) or an equivalent certification
- Proven competency in tissue processing, microtomy, staining, and frozen section preparation
- Comfortable with specimen accessioning and accurate patient identification procedures
- Able to work Monday–Friday daytime schedule reliably and collaborate under the direction of supervisors
- Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills for slide/block filing and retrieval
- ASCP Histotechnologist certification (required)
- Histology procedures and best practices
- Tissue processing, embedding and microtomy
- Routine and special histochemical staining techniques
- Frozen section preparation and rapid turnaround workflows
- Specimen accessioning practices and accurate patient demographic entry
- Operation and basic troubleshooting of tissue processors and lab equipment
- Slide preparation for consultation and proper archiving of slides/blocks
