Job Title: CT Scan Technologist Profession: CT Scan Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday Hours per Shift: 9:30 PM - 8:00 AM Experience: Minimum 3 years License: NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License Certifications: ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Must-Have: - Trauma 1 center experience as a CT technologist - Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body - Understanding mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware - Thorough knowledge of PACS system - Maintains CEU credits - Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months following hire date - American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within three months of hire date Description: The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques. They produce sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assist with interventional and therapeutic procedures. The technologist performs complex CT procedures. They use professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient clinical history for procedures. Information is ensured to be documented and scanned into the system. The technologist prepares, screens, and reviews the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with the patient and/or family member. They identify and/or administer contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. The technologist reviews the patient prescription to verify the appropriateness of the exam. If incorrect, they communicate with the radiologist and referring physician to obtain additional clinical information or a new prescription. They are responsible for calling physicians to clarify the prescription in accordance with the appropriate CT protocols. The technologist verifies insurance authorized exam scripts and sends exam modification forms for insurance re-verification. They obtain outside studies and schedule them in the system so the studies and reports are available for comparison. Exam copies are provided to the patient and requesting physician and/or family member. The technologist evaluates radiographs using the system to ensure that they contain proper identification and are of diagnostic value. They use consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information from medical records and healthcare providers to prepare protocols for scanning and patient safety. The collection of information is determined by the patient’s needs or condition. They determine whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for the procedure. The technologist prepares the patient for scanning by using shielding and immobilization devices. They determine the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered. Accurate explanations and instructions are provided at any appropriate time and at a level the patient can understand. Patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure are addressed and documented when appropriate. The technologist performs venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines. They monitor the patient’s physical condition for any adverse reactions during the procedure. The technologist is responsible for completing scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends. Adherence to the policy of employee ID, standards of behavior, attendance, and punctuality is required. They lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 6 hours a day. The technologist identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies care to be specific to those needs. Communication with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) is done at their level of understanding. Adherence to the standards identified in the organization’s competencies and standards of behavior is mandatory.
