Job Title: CT Technologist Profession: CT Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 14 weeks Shift: Weekend shift: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: One year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred License: Registered in Radiologic Technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certifications: BLS through the American Heart Association Must-Have: Strong interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to perform and teach CT exams; knowledge of OSHA, DHEC, FDA, and TJC standards and regulations Description: Following established protocols and under medical supervision, CT technologists will produce computerized tomography scanner images of designated anatomical areas as ordered by the physician. Technologists will assist the radiologists on procedures as needed and will be responsible for supervising student Radiologic Technologists assigned to them. Encourage and maintain good customer relations. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for the care and safety of patients during imaging procedures utilizing age-appropriate care. Follow established protocols and under the direction of Radiologists, perform procedures for the direct results of interpretations. Obtain correct written orders for procedures. Utilize time efficiently to accomplish patient care assignments while meeting work quality, quantity, and timeliness expectations. Assist in the clinical education of student technologists. Efficiently utilize imaging equipment with attention to minimizing repeat examinations. Use supplies with an emphasis on cost containment. Instruct and prepare patients regarding imaging procedures and assist in obtaining informed consent as needed. Ensure the patient's understanding of the procedure. Communicate with family members regarding discharge instructions. Respond actively and with sensitivity to the needs of internal and external customers. Ensure correct orders, diagnosis, and clinical history are entered into the computer system. Communicate effectively with Radiologists regarding procedures in both verbal and written situations and present a positive and professional demeanor. Adhere to hospital, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Practice good radiation protection and follow established guidelines for relevant governing organizations. Complete annual mandatory in-services and maintain current licensure requirements. Support and promote department efforts in meeting established projects and goals and individual goals. Hold medical and sensitive information in confidence. Promote the mission and values of the healthcare organization. Assists other members of the Imaging Team and/or other disciplines including clerical staff to maintain records, reports, and files. Consistently assist others in their own section or help other sections of the imaging department. Function as a team player by helping wherever help is needed. Demonstrate flexibility and accountability in job duties and be a self-starter. Take initiative towards improving departmental operations and consistently complete tasks efficiently. Perform other job duties and responsibilities as required. Work Demands/Environment: Frequent standing and walking. Frequent lifting/moving of patients. Intermittent lifting, moving, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands and arms. Frequent talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Frequent exposure to radiation risk. Intermittent exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and blood-borne pathogens. Quiet to moderate noise level in the work area. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on department needs. Knowledge/Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Demonstrated ability to perform and teach CT exams to produce satisfactory diagnostic images for interpretation is preferred. Knowledge of OSHA, DHEC, FDA, and TJC standards and regulations is necessary. Ability to operate standard office equipment is required. Education: High school diploma or GED required. Graduate of an accredited school of Allied Health Professionals preferred. Successful completion of an accredited Computed Tomography Program preferred. Licensure/Certification: Registered in Radiologic Technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Current certification in Radiography preferred. Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
