• Prepare the surgical suite by ensuring all instruments, supplies and equipment are available and functioning
• Assist the surgeon intraoperatively with exposure, hemostasis, suturing and closure to help achieve the best patient outcomes
• Perform proper draping, retracting, suctioning, sponging and tissue handling throughout procedures
• Apply appropriate dressings and operate stapling devices and cautery as required by the case
• Collaborate with the OR team—nurses, technologists and anesthesia—to maintain seamless, safe patient care
• Support patient positioning and transportation, contributing to total patient care from pre-op through recovery
• Maintain accurate procedure-related documentation and ensure items are charged/recorded appropriately

• 3+ years Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) experience required
• Active NBSTSA or ABSA certification required
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification required
• Ability and willingness to work as a Surgical Technologist (CST) when FA duties are not needed
• Prior travel assignment experience preferred
• Candidates must provide two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years
• Up-to-date Skills Checklist (within 1 year) specific to Certified Surgical First Assist
• Facility will not consider local candidates within a 50-mile radius—please provide permanent address

• Active certification through NBSTSA or ABSA (required)
• American Heart Association BLS (required)
• Certification or training in surgical assisting / surgical technology preferred

• Proven expertise in sterile technique and operating room protocol
• Skilled in suturing, cautery, stapling devices and dressing application
• Strong abilities in draping, retracting, suctioning, sponging and tissue handling
• Competent in assisting surgeon with exposure, hemostasis and intraoperative technical functions
• Familiarity with surgical instrument handling and OR equipment checks
• Experience with Epic electronic medical record preferred
• Team-focused communication and the ability to coordinate with nursing and technologist staff
