Position Summary:
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides skilled support services under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT). The COTA implements treatment plans designed by the OT to help residents regain independence in activities of daily living and improve overall functional performance in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Carry out treatment plans established by the Occupational Therapist, focused on improving residents abilities in ADLs, mobility, cognition, and psychosocial functioning.
- Assist with resident evaluations and contribute to documentation of functional status and progress toward goals.
- Deliver direct therapy services in a compassionate, safe, and effective manner.
- Monitor and document residents responses to interventions, reporting changes or concerns to the OT promptly.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and communicate relevant resident updates.
- Educate residents and caregivers on therapeutic exercises and safety techniques to support independence.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic medical record system.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of adaptive equipment and assistive devices.
- Follow facility policies, CMS guidelines, and professional standards of practice.
- Uphold ethical and professional conduct in accordance with state licensure and certification requirements.
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
- Current Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license in the state of practice.
- Previous experience in SNF or geriatric setting preferred.
- Strong communication, clinical judgment, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under the direction and supervision of a licensed OT.
- Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)/Long-Term Care setting
- May require standing, lifting, and transferring residents
- Collaborative, interdisciplinary team approach
