Job Title: Patient Care Technician Profession: PCT Specialty: Psychiatric Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 8-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 7.5 Hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS PCT Certification De-Escalation Training Must-Have: Phlebotomy experience 12 Lead EKG experience Description: Unit notes: Department: Psychiatric Unit # of Beds: 46 Beds, divided into sections. Fast Track/Triage: 1 section designated to triage and fast-track patients. Security: Available on-site 24/7. Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Varies by shift. Common diagnoses include: Severe mental illnesses and behavioral issues such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, anxiety, trauma, and more. Patients may have multiple comorbidities but are typically medically stable. Medically unstable patients are transferred to appropriate care. Job Duties of PCTs include: Phlebotomy 12 Lead EKGs 1:1 patient observation Transport duties Assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) Conducting patient contraband searches Inventorying patient property Assisting physicians and nurses as needed Medications administered include: IM injections and oral medications. Psychotropic medications such as Haldol, Zyprexa, Ativan, etc. Available resources: Respiratory Therapy available 24/7. Cardiac monitoring available with Tele Techs overseeing. Registered Nurses are expected to identify major and life-threatening rhythms. Xray and CT services available, with transport provided by Patient Care Technicians. Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend. Scrub Color: Eggplant. Trauma Level: Acute Care setting. Division: Allied Health.
