Job Title: Psychiatric Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Psych Tech / PCT Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8H Days Hours per Shift: 37.5 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in nursing or psychiatric/behavioral healthcare License: None Required Certifications: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification Must-Have: - High School Diploma or GED - Graduate of a State-certified Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Patient Care Assistant (PCA) program - Competency in performing vital signs, phlebotomy, EKG, and blood glucose monitoring - Ability to engage with children and adolescents in a trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate manner Description: The Psychiatric Technician is an integral member of the behavioral health unit. This position provides direct patient care and clinical support under the supervision of registered nurses. The role ensures safety on the unit and engages patients in therapeutic activities. Support is provided to children and adolescents with daily needs during their hospitalization. The Psychiatric Technician performs clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and point-of-care testing. Care is delivered as part of a trauma-informed, developmentally sensitive model. Preferred qualifications include an Associate’s Degree in psychology, human services, or a related field. Experience working with youth in behavioral health, educational, or residential settings is desirable. Prior experience in acute inpatient psychiatry or a Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program is a plus. Completion of recognized crisis intervention training is also preferred.
