About the Opportunity
A lower middle-market private equity firm (representative of firms within our network) may seek a Transaction Research Analyst to support deal sourcing, screening, and diligence efforts through high-quality research and analytical support.
This role is ideal for candidates at the beginning of their buy-side careers who want exposure to how investment teams identify, evaluate, and prioritize transaction opportunities before and during active deal processes.
The environment is typically lean, providing close interaction with senior investment professionals and strong visibility into live deal activity.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Transaction Research & Deal Screening
Conduct research on potential acquisition targets, industries, and market segments
Support deal sourcing efforts by analyzing company profiles, financial summaries, and ownership structures
Assist with initial opportunity screening and prioritization
Maintain databases of potential targets, transactions, and market intelligence
Industry & Market Analysis
Perform industry, sector, and competitive research to support investment theses
Analyze market size, growth drivers, competitive dynamics, and industry trends
Compile research findings into clear, concise briefing materials for investment teams
Due Diligence Support
Assist with early-stage diligence by reviewing financial statements, KPIs, and operating metrics
Support analysis of customer concentration, revenue drivers, unit economics, and business risks
Organize and summarize diligence materials from internal and third-party sources
Investment Materials & Documentation
Help prepare screening memos, research summaries, and investment committee materials
Draft supporting slides and written content for internal presentations
Ensure research outputs are well-structured, accurate, and decision-ready
Ongoing Knowledge Management
Track relevant transactions, market activity, and comparable company data
Support the upkeep of internal research libraries and deal logs
Assist with ad hoc analytical requests from senior team members

Education & Technical Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail
Solid understanding of financial statements and corporate finance fundamentals
Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with financial data sources is a plus
Experience (Formal or Informal)
Prior internships or academic exposure to finance, research, consulting, investment banking, or corporate development is beneficial
Demonstrated interest in transactions, investing, and private markets
