The Opportunity

We are collaborating with manufacturing firms in Byron Center that are seeking skilled Tooling Engineers. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement manufacturing tools, dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and modification of existing tooling to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot tooling-related production issues and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with R&D and production teams to define tooling requirements for new products and processes.
  • Optimize tooling designs and processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate materials and manufacturing methods for tooling construction.
  • Manage external tooling suppliers and contractors, ensuring quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in tooling design, development, or maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) for tooling design and analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes (CNC, EDM, grinding) and material properties for tool fabrication.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex tooling performance and quality issues.
  • Experience with GD&T, DFM (Design for Manufacturability), and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles related to tooling.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Proficiency with FEA or mold flow simulation software.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience with Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) for tooling applications.
  • Project Management certification (e.g., PMP or CAPM).
  • Familiarity with robotic or automated tooling integration.
