The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities
- Design and fabricate precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures from blueprints, sketches, or CAD models.
- Operate a variety of machine tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machines to produce tool components.
- Perform routine maintenance, repair, and modification of existing tooling to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Inspect finished tools and components for accuracy, quality, and adherence to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to tool performance, wear, and breakage during production.
- Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and production staff to optimize tool design and manufacturing processes.
Recommended Qualifications
- Proven experience in the fabrication, repair, and maintenance of precision tooling, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
- Proficiency in operating a range of manual and CNC machine shop equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, EDM).
- Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications.
- Expertise in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Solid understanding of various metal properties, machining processes, and heat treatment.
- Completed apprenticeship or relevant technical certification in Tool & Die Making or Machining.
Bonus Qualifications
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam).
- Experience operating CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) or other advanced metrology equipment.
- Demonstrated experience working with exotic materials (e.g., superalloys, ceramics, composites).
- Prior experience in fixture or jig design and development.
