The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Design, fabricate, and assemble precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures according to specifications.
• Operate and set up various machine tools including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
• Perform maintenance, repair, and modification of existing production tooling.
• Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and CAD models to determine tooling requirements.
• Conduct precision measurements using various inspection tools to ensure accuracy and quality.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose tooling problems, implementing effective solutions to minimize production downtime.
• Collaborate with engineers and production staff on tooling design improvements and manufacturing processes.

Recommended Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Journeyman Tool Maker or in a precision machining environment.
• Proficiency in operating a wide range of manual and CNC machine tools (mills, lathes, grinders, EDMs).
• Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and GD&T specifications.
• Demonstrated understanding of various tool steels, carbides, and their heat treatment properties.
• Proven diagnostic and problem-solving skills for tool repair, maintenance, and optimization.
• Completion of a recognized Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship program or an equivalent technical degree/certification.

Bonus Qualifications

• Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam)
• Experience operating EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) equipment
• Knowledge of heat treatment processes for various tool steels
• Experience with advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM, optical comparators)
