ATT is an industry leader in the metrology sector, with a 35-year history. We are a technology company with a culture of technical excellence, professional growth, and innovation. We are seeking a skilled Tool Builder to support field installation, adjustment, validation, and sustainment of precision tooling at customer sites. This is a full-time, traveling position for a hands-on professional who understands how complex tooling is assembled, adjusted, and made production-ready in real manufacturing environments.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with customers, solving practical problems on-site, and ensuring tooling performs as intended under production conditions.
Vision: To be the world leader in precision metrology services and integrated solutions.
Mission: Offer full metrology solutions to our customers – which will reduce costs and improve quality significantly in their broader value chain.
This is a full-time, direct-hire role offering a dynamic career path in a supportive, growth-oriented environment, with opportunities to lead installation projects and implement advanced engineering practices. Please note, this position requires full-time travel to support installations and tooling validations using dimensional metrology tools.
Responsibilities
- Install, assemble, and commission precision tooling, including master gages, checking fixtures, drill jigs, assembly fixtures, and inspection aids at customer facilities.
- Perform precision alignment, adjustment, and fit-up of tooling to meet engineering intent, GD&T requirements, and production needs.
- Execute field modifications, repairs, and rework to existing tooling to address wear, damage, transport-related issues, or legacy design constraints.
- Work closely with ATT engineers and customer tooling, manufacturing, and quality teams to validate tooling functionality and readiness.
- Support tool buy-off, first article inspection (FAI), and production readiness activities.
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and tooling layouts to guide installation and adjustment work.
- Identify discrepancies between tooling design and actual shop-floor conditions and communicate findings back to engineering.
- Perform basic dimensional verification using mechanical and portable measurement tools (indicators, scales, height gages; advanced metrology a plus).
- Travel to domestic and international customer sites, supporting short- and long-term tooling deployments.
- Document field adjustments, modifications, and installation outcomes in accordance with ATT and customer requirements.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
5+ years of hands-on experience as a tool builder, toolmaker, or tooling technician.
- Aerospace tooling experience required, including work with master gages, fixtures, or production tooling in aerospace manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of precision machining, mechanical assembly, and tool fit-up.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and CAD models (CATIA experience a plus).
- Experience performing precision alignment and adjustment using mechanical measurement tools.
- Familiarity with regulated manufacturing environments (e.g., aerospace quality systems).
- Willingness and ability to travel.
- Ability to work independently at customer sites with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills and a professional, customer-facing demeanor.
- Physical ability to work with tooling, including lifting, positioning, and fine mechanical adjustment.
- This position involves access to technology that is subject to U.S. export controls. The applicant must be able to satisfy the requirements of federal export control laws.
- Compensation: Competitive hourly rate with overtime and bonus opportunities.
