Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to determine tool and die specifications.
  • Fabricate, assemble, and test new tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures according to design requirements.
  • Repair, maintain, and modify existing production tools, dies, and molds to ensure optimal performance.
  • Operate a variety of machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC equipment, to shape metal.
  • Perform precision measurements and inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other metrology instruments.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with tools and dies, implementing corrective actions to restore functionality.
  • Select appropriate materials and apply heat treatments to achieve desired hardness and durability for tooling components.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship or 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Expertise in operating a variety of manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and optical comparators.
  • Strong understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment processes, and various tooling materials.

Bonus Qualifications

  • - Experience with CNC programming and operation
  • - Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for tool design
  • - Knowledge of heat treatment processes for tooling
  • - Experience with EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining)
  • - Familiarity with metrology equipment and techniques
