Company Overview: McCurdy Tool is a leading provider of Tooling and Die Cast Molds and are committed to quality and innovation. We are seeking a skilled Tool-Maker/Machinist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a strong technical background, and a passion for creating high-quality machined parts.

Position Summary: The Tool-Maker/Machinist is responsible for operating and maintaining various machine tools to produce precision parts, tooling, and molds. This role requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as the ability to read blueprints, use precision measuring instruments, and apply advanced machining techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machining Operations: Operate and maintain manual tooling machines, CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines is a plus, such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine the dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces.
  • Precision Measurement: Use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to ensure parts meet exact specifications and tolerances.
  • Quality Control: Conduct thorough inspections of machined Tooling and Molds to identify defects and ensure adherence to quality standards. Perform adjustments to machinery and tooling as needed to maintain product quality.
  • Programming: Write and edit CNC programs to optimize machining processes and improve efficiency. Solid Works, Gibbs Cam, and Auto-Cad is a plus
  • Tooling Setup: Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials for machining operations. Set up machines and adjust controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut.
  • Materials: Steel H-13, P-20, S-7, etc.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure the workspace is clean and organized.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes, reduce waste, and increase productivity.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a machinist apprenticeship program or technical school training preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience as a machinist in a manufacturing environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machines. Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and materials.
  • Computer Skills: Familiarity with CNC programming software and CAD/CAM software is a plus.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks with precision.
  • Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with team members and supervisors.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Manufacturing floor with exposure to loud noise, moving machinery, and materials.
  • Hours: Full-time position with overtime. Shop is opened 5:00am to 6:00pm. Set Schedule within those hours are negotiable.
