Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Operate and set up a variety of manual and CNC machining equipment, including lathes, mills, and grinders.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings for tool fabrication.
  • Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with existing tooling, implementing effective repairs and modifications.
  • Select appropriate materials and apply relevant heat treatments for tool longevity and performance.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on tools and dies to minimize downtime and extend lifespan.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship program or equivalent vocational training.
  • Proficiency in setting up and operating a variety of precision machining equipment, including mills, lathes, grinders, and EDMs.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Expertise in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and bore gauges to ensure part accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of various metal properties, tooling materials, and heat treatment processes.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam).
  • Experience operating advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM).
  • Welding experience for tool and die repair (e.g., TIG, laser welding).
  • Knowledge of heat treatment processes and material properties.
  • Familiarity with automation systems and robotics integration.
