Key Responsibilities
- Design, fabricate, and repair complex tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures using precision machining techniques.
- Interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and specifications to create or modify tooling.
- Operate and maintain a variety of machine tools, including CNC machines, lathes, milling machines, grinders, and EDM equipment.
- Perform precision measurements and inspections to ensure tooling meets strict tolerances and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with tooling performance and functionality on the production floor.
- Collaborate with engineers and production staff to optimize tooling design and manufacturing processes.
- Maintain accurate records of tooling fabrication, repair, and maintenance activities.
- Select appropriate materials and heat treatment processes for tooling components.
Recommended Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or equivalent vocational training in tool and die making.
- Proven experience in operating and maintaining various machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC machines.
- Strong understanding of blueprint reading, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and precision measurement techniques.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing complex tooling and dies.
- Knowledge of metallurgy and heat-treating processes.
Bonus Qualifications
- - Experience with CNC programming and operation for tool and die production
- - Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for design and simulation
- - Knowledge of heat treatment processes for tooling
- - Familiarity with various welding techniques for tool repair and fabrication
- - Experience with inspection and measurement tools like CMMs
