The Opportunity
We are partnering with organizations in Grand Rapids that are seeking Tool and Die Makers. Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate, assemble, and repair dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges using various machine tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and CAD drawings to determine specifications.
- Operate precision machinery such as lathes, mills, grinders, and EDM equipment.
- Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and optical comparators.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with existing tooling to determine necessary repairs or modifications.
- Maintain and sharpen cutting tools and components to ensure optimal performance.
- Inspect finished tools and dies for conformance to specifications and quality standards.
Recommended Qualifications
- Journeyman Tool and Die Maker certification or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in precision tool and die making.
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Expertise in operating and setting up conventional machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders) and precision measuring instruments.
- Strong problem-solving skills with an exceptional eye for detail and precision.
Bonus Qualifications
- - Experience with CNC programming and operation.
- - Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for tool design.
- - Knowledge of various heat treating processes.
- - Familiarity with advanced measuring instruments (e.g., CMM).
- - Experience with automated manufacturing systems.
