Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and repair complex tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
- Operate and maintain precision machine tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, and EDMs.
- Interpret blueprints, CAD models, and technical specifications to determine tooling requirements.
- Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot issues on existing production tooling.
- Inspect finished tools and dies for conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Select appropriate materials and apply heat treatments for optimal tool performance and longevity.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize tooling designs and manufacturing processes.
Recommended Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship program or equivalent journeyman experience.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Extensive experience operating precision machining equipment (e.g., mills, lathes, grinders, EDM, CNC).
- Demonstrated expertise in using precision measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, CMM).
- Strong understanding of metallurgy, material properties, and heat treatment processes.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex tooling and die issues.
Bonus Qualifications
- - Experience with EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining)
- - Familiarity with CAD/CAM software for programming CNC machinery
- - Certification in advanced metrology or precision measurement techniques
- - Experience with heat-treating processes for tooling
